Okay, alright. I get it. You can all stop rolling your eyes at the unrealistic possibility of actually traveling stress-free with your girlfriend. But seriously! It can be do -sort of. I’m not here to say that there’s some sort of magical thing you can do that will automatically remove the stress of traveling.
But there are many steps you can take to alleviate some of that stress. The difference between traveling with girlfriends versus traveling alone or with your buddies is not too drastic – besides the planning aspect.
You see, guys generally don’t do much planning past getting there. Once they reach the destination, anything really goes and you just kind of figure out what you’re going to do when you get there – which is totally fine if that’s what you want to do!
Girls, on the other hand, have a way of turning a week long vacation into the biggest event of the year. Plan, plan, plan. That’s what girls are all about prior to a vacation and that’s generally where all of the stress seems to come from. Planning the trip there, where you’ll stay, where you’ll eat dinner each night, what events you’ll want to see – the list could go on.
Vacations are meant to be relaxing; a time to get away and just enjoy each other without all of the stresses of everyday life. So let me lend you a hand and make your vacation what it should be – stress-free. Here are some tips on how to travel stress free with your girlfriend.
#1 Plan Ahead
While she may do much of this for you, it will take the stress off the situation when she asks if you’ve packed, called your credit card company, or even if you’ve booked the rooms. Plans that go up in flames are seriously every girlfriend’s nightmare.
Not only does she really want everything to go smoothly for a great vacation, but she also wants to take some of the pressure off of you and make sure you have a great time. So by having everything planned out ahead of time, you can avoid future disasters that are sure to make your vacation stressful.
#2 Listen to Her
Don’t go rolling your eyes again! I’m serious. When the two of you are planning out a vacation, it’s not the right time to be ignoring her requests. She’s obviously telling you to do certain things for a reason and those reasons are to ensure that there are no stressful hiccups once you’re on the road.
She’s not just talking to talk anymore. If she asks to book the rooms, do it. If she asks you to get certain supplies before the trip, get them. If you want to avoid stress while traveling, you need to start paying more attention while you’re planning.
#3 Be Prepared for Anything
Shit happens. Flights get canceled or delayed, hotels get overbooked, and sometimes you’re left to fend for yourself. Stuff like this is honestly a girlfriend’s worst nightmare. So make sure you’re prepared.
Have a back-up plan for the worst case scenario. Have other hotel options or other means of transportation that you may be able to use but don’t have to. Oh! And also bring snacks – we all know how girlfriends get when they’re hungry. Yikes!
#4 Make a List Before You Leave
Lists are usually girlfriend things and she’ll probably even write one out for you, but have a list ready to read off before you leave. The week before you leave you’ll probably be thinking about different things you’ll need to bring on the trip.
WRITE THOSE DOWN. Many people have this “mental list” but then hit a road block when they’re actually packing to leave. This will ensure that you have everything you need and you can avoid any stressful situations that may arise otherwise.
#5 Pack for the Unknown – and Make Sure She Does Too
If you’re heading to a warm climate, board shorts and sunscreen may be the only thing on your mind, but pay attention to other items of clothing you may need to bring.
It might rain. It might be chilly at night. You might go out to a fancy restaurant. These are all things that require different outfits. Make sure to pack for all of it and make sure she does too. Even though she might not think a hoodie would be “so cute” on vacation, she’ll be really stressed if it ends up being hoodie weather instead of bikini weather.
#6 Make Plans for “Me Time”
Just because you’re vacationing with your significant other does not mean that you need to spend time with JUST your significant other. We all know that stress can come from spending too much time together.
So, in order to avoid some of that stress, plan some time to explore your destination separately. Better yet, make plans in secret for her to go to a spa at some point. Not only will she be really grateful for the gift, but it’ll also give you some time to yourself as well.
#7 Figure Out Money Beforehand – Not During
This is especially a big deal if the two of you have been together for a decent amount of time, but not long enough to be super comfortable with sharing all the expenses of a vacation. To avoid any stressful situations that may arise, discuss and agree about who will be paying for what beforehand so there’s no questioning it.
#8 Just Enjoy Yourself
Vacations are supposed to be fun and relaxing! If you’re feeling more stressed than you are at home, something is wrong and you’re both wound up too tight. Remind her and yourself what vacation is for and then just go get some drinks!
Although traveling stress-free with your girlfriend may not be all that realistic, there are many ways to reduce the chance of stress or just avoid it altogether!
