After a two-month break, the strongest soccer club competition, the Champions League, continues on Tuesday. Two matches will be played, Benfica – Zenit and Paris Saint-Germain – Chelsea.
PSG – Chelsea
PSG played against Chelsea last year in the same round of the Champions League, and both games in Paris and London were draws, 1-1 and 2-2 respectively. PSG made their way to the quarter-finals on away goals, but Chelsea will be looking to change their luck this season. That will be very hard to do, since Chelsea is playing significantly worse than the last year, while PSG, under the management of Laurent Blanc remains confidently on the No. 1 spot in French League. We can safely conclude that they will win the title.
Serbian players Nemanja Matic and captain Branislav Ivanovic are expected in the starting lineup. The fans hope that Ivanovic will once again score against PSG at the Parc des Princes, just like in February 2015.
Benfica – Zenit
Russian Zenit has dominated in the group phase, unexpectedly leaving Gent at the second place, Valencia at the third, and Lyon at the fourth. If Zenit makes it to the quarter-finals by eliminating Benfica, that would be their greatest success in their history, after winning the UEFA Cup in 2008.
The Russians had only one defeat in the group stage, in the last round against Gent 2-1, but it seems that the chances are 50-50.
Benfica fans are not in a good mood after Friday, when they were defeated by rivals, Porto 2:1 at their own stadium.
On February 17th, two more matches will be played in the Champions League. Gent – Wolfsburg and Roma – Real Madrid.
