Derby match between Valencia and Real Madrid ended with a draw (2:2) on a crowded “Mestalla”, in the 18th round of Primera Liga.
‘Royal Club’ led the game twice, but both times Gary Neville, the manager of Valencia and legendary right-back of Manchester United, managed to motivate his players and squeeze out one point from this spectacular duel.
Mateo Kovacic of Real Madrid was sent off in the 68th minute because of his mistimed tackle on Joao Cancelo.
The duel between Valencia and Real Madrid has brought a lot of excitement and a draw, in the end, was the most realistic outcome. None of the two teams was absolutely dominant, and it can be said that the ‘Royal Club’ lack of concentration prevented them from winning this match.
Benzema led Real Madrid into the lead after 16 minutes, after a play in which both Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo had participated. First, the French footballer went through the middle all the way to the penalty area, passed the ball to Bale, then to Ronaldo, who assisted Benzema, and he sealed it right into the bottom left corner of Valencia’s goal.
‘Bats’ had their own chance in the extended time of the first half, when Real Madrid centre-back, Pepe, fouled a player in the penalty box. Parejo was awarded with a chance to shoot and he safely scored.
Real was in every way trying to reach the new goal in second half, and somehow they managed to do so in the 81st minute when Bale scored a header after a superb free kick by Toni Kroos. Just a couple of minutes later, Valencia’s Rodrigo crossed the ball to Paco Alcacer, who checkmated Keylor Navas and the final score of the match was reached.
This draw with Valencia made Real Madrid miss their chance to reach spot no.2 on the league standings and equalize with Barcelona. Instead, Real Madrid now has 37 points, lagging behind Atletico Madrid by 4 points. Valencia is at the 10th position with 23 points.
