Chelsea is very close to finalizing the transfer of Pato, 10.4 million euros. Pato desperately wants to return to Europe, and the English Premier League is an ideal destination for a 26-year old player.
The former Milan striker needs a work permit, and several weeks of preparing to get back into shape since his last match was in November 2015. The transfer should be finalized by the end of this week.
If this transfer goes through, Pato would finally achieve his dream to play at Stamford Bridge, and according to media he will sign a three-year contract.
The Brazilian was associated with a transfer to Chelsea for months, and it looks like the club is ready to pay between 8 and 10 million pounds for his services. His former club, Corinthians, is not happy with only 60 percent of the transfer fee belonging to them.
Chelsea is also trying to bring the attacking midfielder from Shakhtar Donetsk, Alex Teixeira. In addition to Alex, allegedly on their wish list are Milan striker Carlos Bacca, as well as the West Ham striker Saido Berahino. Loic Remy would probably have to leave Chelsea.
Pato was at one time considered the greatest talent in football. As a 17-year-old, in 2007, he signed the “contract of his life” with Milan. He remained there until 2012 when he returned to Brazil after numerous injuries.
Pato has also played for the Brazilian national team since 2008, appearing 27 times and scoring 10 goals.
Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink wants to get rid Radamel Falcao, but club Monaco refused to return him from a loan ahead of schedule.
Defender Branislav Ivanovic is likely to sign a new one-year contract extension, while his teammate Papy Djilobodji will go on loan to Werder Bremen.
