The NFL in Review: Week 1

Football, Helmets

Finally, crisp air and cool nights returned. It’s the season for apple picking and back to school. And most importantly, it’s time for football. Week 1 sprang into action this past weekend opening up with Brady and the Patriots and closing with Kaepernick and the 49ers. The most wonderful time of the year is here, folks – let’s take a rundown of the opening weekend of the NFL.

Patriots vs. Steelers

As expected, Tom Brady came out with bad intentions after an entire offseason of his name being dragged through the mud. New England’s defense wasn’t good, but it was good enough as Brady led the offense to an easy win over Pittsburgh

Dolphins vs. Redskins

It didn’t go quite as expected for Miami this weekend, but they got the job done, winning 17-10 on Jarvis Landry’s clutch punt return touchdown.

Rams vs. Seahawks

The Legion of Boom was upset in overtime by the Rams 34-31 after they failed to take advantage of goal line opportunities. Will we have a new champ in the West this year?

Bills vs. Colts

Buffalo has made a statement by handling the Colts this weekend, 27-14. Rex and company will be a force to be reckoned with in 2015.

Jaguars vs. Panthers

The Panthers pulled out a 20-9 win over the Jags in this battle of the bad. Neither team has high hopes this year, but somebody had to win!

Jets vs. Browns

The Jets blasted the Browns 31-10 to open the year. No Geno, no problem was their motto as they put up 31 points on what has been a fairly formidable defense.

Packers vs. Bears

Aaron Rodgers led the Pack to a 31-23 victory with 3 touchdowns through the air. This was a better game than expected as Chicago was able to hold their own – Cutler threw for more yards than Rodgers did.

Texans vs. Chiefs

Kansas City earned its first W of 2015 as Travis Kelce could not be stopped. He racked up over 100 yards receiving and found the endzone twice. It could be a long year in Houston, Watt or not.

Chargers vs. Lions

San Diego pulled out a close win over Detroit, 33-28. The Chargers were led by Keenan Allen’s 166 receiving yards and Danny Woodhead’s two scores.

Saints vs. Cardinals

Carson Palmer and the Arizona Cardinals opened the year with a 31-19 win over the Saints. Palmer led the air attack and Drew Brees and the Saints just couldn’t keep up.

Ravens vs. Broncos

In a game where neither offense deserved a win, the Broncos survived, 19-13. It’s tough to win a game without scoring an offensive touchdown, but Denver did just that on Sunday.

Bengals vs. Raiders

The Raiders were trounced by Cincinnati this weekend, 33-13. Tight end Tyler Eifert was masterful for the Bengals and just might be Andy Dalton’s new favorite target with A.J. Green drawing double coverage.

Titans vs. Buccaneers

In the rematch of Winston/Mariota, the former Duck came out on top again. Impressing everyone by tossing 4 touchdowns in the first half, Mariota gave the Titans everything they need for their first win of the year.

Giants vs. Cowboys

A great start to the year for these NFC East rivals, but only 1 team could win. Tony Romo was able to seal the 27-26 victory with a late 4th quarter touchdown pass to tight end Jason Witten. It’s going to be a great game when these two meet again later this year.

Eagles vs. Falcons

This game was a tale of 2 halves as the Falcons held on to win 26-24. Atlanta stormed out to a 20-3 halftime lead but was outscored 21-6 in the second half – which team will we see next week?

49ers vs. Vikings

San Francisco dominated this game from kickoff to final whistle, beating the Vikings 20-3. Carlos Hyde was unstoppable as he posted 168 rushing yards and 2 scores. Check out his incredible spin move on YouTube – trust me, it’s worth it.

There you have it, Week 1 is in the books. Luckily, we have 16 more and then the playoffs. Thank you, football, we’ve missed you.
