The contract was terminated seven months after Chelsea FC had won the title. Allegedly, the club will have to pay off the rest of Mourinho’s contract, which is around 18 million dollars this season. Moreover, Jose gave up the rest of the 60 million dollars envisaged by the said contract.

Although Mourinho won many trophies across Europe, he failed to ensure long-term success and heritage. In front of the club owner, Roman Abramovich, is a big decision. Who will suceed Jose Mourinho?

There are five potential successors mentioned: Guus Hiddink, Brendan Rodgers, Juande Ramos, Carlo Ancelotti and Josep Guardiola. Mourinho left Chelsea just one point from the relegation zone, and two very important matches in February against Paris Saint-Germain in the eight finals of the Champions League.

Portuguese was the most successful manager in the history of Chelsea, and he led them to Premier League title three times in two terms, in addition to one FA Cup and three League Cups.

“We are very grateful to Jose’s incredible contribution made as a coach. His three league titles and other trophies make him the most successful coach in the 110-year history of the club. But Jose and the administration agreed that the results are not good enough this season and that is best for both sides to go separate ways. The club wishes to underline that Jose went without bitterness, and in a friendly way and he will remain forever loved, respected and important part of the history of Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge will forever be remembered, ” said the official Chelsea announcement.

After an impressive last season, Chelsea had numerous problems from the beginning – bad form, game and results, and Mourinho has often shifted the blame on the players, and even physiotherapist Eva Carneiro was dismissed.

In addition to that, Mourinho had constantly criticized the referees, and he was banned twice from leading the team and fined with about $150 000.

Speculations were circling the media in recent weeks about a conflict with the best players – Terry, Ivanovic, Hazard and Diego Costa.

The question is where will he now be able to continue his career. Rumors are that he will return to Real Madrid, or maybe join PSG, Manchester United or Manchester City. Also, Bayern Munich will also need new manager this summer.

Mourinho, 52, apart from Chelsea, was the manager of Uniao Leira, Inter Milan, Porto and Real Madrid.
