Only a week before the big premiere of Zoolander 2, the long awaited sequel of the 2001 hit comedy film, a final trailer was just released giving us one more glimpse of what to expect this second time around.
For the sequel, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back as male supermodels Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald along with the first film’s super-villain Mugatu who is played by the hilarious Will Ferrell.
Joining them are Penélope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, and Fred Armisen with cameos from Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Munn, Christine Taylor and musicians Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Mika along with many other guest star surprises.
The first Zoolander boasted cameos from a couple dozen celebrities, including David Bowie, Natalie Portman, Tyson Beckford, Victoria Beckham, and Lenny Kravitz.
As for the new characters in the sequel, ‘Bridesmaids’ star Kristen Wiig is totally unrecognizable as the terrifying new villain Alexanya Atoz, who is some scary, ambiguously-Eastern European fashion titan.
The actress’ severe look goes perfect for someone who is of course in cahoots with Mugatu. And also, her voice sounds nothing like what we’re used to hear from this former SNL alumn.
The official plot for the sequel reads:
“When the “world’s most beautiful people” are systematically assassinated with formerly famous male model Derek Zoolander’s trademark “Blue Steel” look on their face, Interpol agent Melania Valentina (played by Penelope Cruz) recruits Derek and his friend Hansel McDonald to infiltrate a new and different world of high fashion in order to put a stop to it. Meanwhile, Derek’s rival Jacobim Mugatu is set free and is seeking revenge”.
In the new ‘Relax’ trailer we see Derek visiting Mugatu in prison where the chained-up villain tricks the dim-witted male model into switching places with him, ending with Derek in chains, saying, “Your move.” Mugatu: “You really are an idiot aren’t you?”
The latest trailer also shows the clueless Derek Zoolander and Hansel saying to each other, ‘I miss not knowing things with you.’
The new clip also offers more of the sequel’s special guests stars, including Skrillex , A$AP Rocky and Justin Theroux who appeared in the original Zoolander movie 15 years ago and is reprising his role as the creepy Evil DJ.
If the sequel does well in the box office, you can expect a third Zoolander film that completes the trilogy, as Ben Stiller, who is shockingly 50 years old, admits that he’s okay with the infamous Blue Steel face sticking with him for the rest of his career.
“I’d much rather have somebody say, ‘Hey, Zoolander,’ than ‘Hey, Focker,’ he told Vogue magazine. “It’s hard for me to not do it when somebody wants to take a picture with me. I just go into it, like a trained dog.”
You can watch below the final trailer which features the Frankie Goes to Hollywood classic song, “Just Relax Don’t Do It,” that was used in the first film as a mind control weapon.
Zoolander 2 will be released in theaters on February 12, 2016
