This film promises to be epic. Matt Damon seems to be sinking his teeth into a roll which may give him a taste of relevancy that he hasn’t enjoyed since he played Jason Bourne. With quite a few recent duds, as well as stirring up a firestorm of the racial variety, this blockbuster couldn’t come at a better time for the beleaguered star that stole our hearts with Good Will Hunting back in 1997.
The Martian, based on the novel by Andy Weir looks, at first glance, to be science fiction’s answer to The Castaway. However, the story is not merely one of survival that focuses on Matt Damon, who is stranded on Mars, but also becomes one of loyalty as his crew attempts to rescue him, and one of hope as the world watches.
The film, directed by Ridley Scott, is one we await with eager anticipation.
In theaters October 2, 2015.
