Universal has dropped the first full-length trailer for the action film sequel/prequel for the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman.

The fantastical world of Snow White and the Huntsman expands to reveal how the fates of The Huntsman Eric and Queen Ravenna are deeply and dangerously intertwined.

The film sees the return of the first film stars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron also introducing new roles for Emily BluntJessica Chastain and Nick Frost.

This time around Kristen Stewart will not be returning for the sequel to reprise her role as the character Snow White.

The sequel is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the first film (Best Visual Effects).

The film is based on the characters from the German fairy tale “Snow White” compiled by the Brothers Grimm. The script is written by Frank Darabont, David Koepp, Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

The official plot synopsis of the film is the following:

Long before the evil Queen Ravenna (Theron) was thought vanquished by Snow White’s blade, she watched silently as her sister, Freya (Blunt), suffered a heartbreaking betrayal and fled their kingdom.  With Freya’s ability to freeze any enemy, the young ice queen has spent decades in a remote wintry palace raising a legion of deadly huntsmen—including Eric (Hemsworth) and warrior Sara (Chastain)—only to find that her prized two defied her one demand: Forever harden your hearts to love.

When Freya learns of her sister’s demise, she summons her remaining soldiers to bring the Magic Mirror home to the only sorceress left who can harness its power.  But once she discovers Ravenna can be resurrected from its golden depths, the wicked sisters threaten this enchanted land with twice the darkest force it’s ever seen.  Now, their amassing army shall prove undefeatable…unless the banished huntsmen who broke their queen’s cardinal rule can fight their way back to one another.

The first full trailer for The Huntsman: Winter’s War has been unveiled and it’s double trouble for Chris Hemsworth this time round.

The trailer gives confirmation that the character of Charlize Theron’s evil Queen Ravenna – vanquished with the help of Kristen Stewart’s Snow White in the first film -is  being resurrected by her ice queen sister Freya, played by Emily Blunt.

A fun fact about the film, is that Chris Hemsworth who plays the lead in this film, is mostly famous for playing the Norse god Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now Emily Blunts character is named Freya, which is the name of a Norse goddess.

The first film Snow White and the Huntsman was a reasonable success for Universal in 2012; it made just under $400 million worldwide against a reported budget of $170 million.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War opens in theaters April 22, 2016.
