Suicide Squad Movie Trailer

Suicide Squad

2016 is just around the corner and many comic book fans are highly anticipating what will probably go down in history as the biggest year for superhero films with the release of Deadpool, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America Civil War, X Men Apocalypse, Gambit, Doctor Strange and of course The Suicide Squad.

At first it seems that all of the attention is focusing on the big superhero battles of Batman V Superman and Captain America V Iron Man, but for some fans like me The Suicide Squad  movie is right there at the top of the list with those two.

And it seems that I’m not alone. For one, the comic-con first look trailer for Suicide Squad has more than 58 million views already which is  2 million more than the comic-con trailer for the Batman V Superman that was released around the same date.

The main interest in the Suicide Squad Movie is, of course, the all-star cast that will bring to the big screen the first film representations of some of the most famous villains in the DC Universe and a new version of one of the most iconic super villains in comic book history, The Joker.

The movie is directed and written by “Fury” director David Ayer, and the impressive cast includes:

Jared Leto as Joker

This is arguably the main attraction of the film as everyone is waiting to see Leto´s version of the iconic Batman arch-nemesis especially after the famous Oscar winning performance of Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight.

In fact, the actor recently re-posted an image on his Instagram account that featured two versions of the Joker played by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. The photo was captioned with “Don’t worry. Leto will make us proud.”

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn

A crazed super-villain and former psychiatrist who is best known to fans from her appearances in Batman: The Animated Series.

This female super-villain seems to take one of the leading roles in the film. In the trailer that was released at Comic Con, Harley has the most screen time out of all the characters, and the soundtrack to the trailer seems to mirror her mindset.

The character is best known for being a frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker, and the super-villain Poison Ivy from whom she gained an immunity to poisons and toxins.

Harley Quinn’s origin story relates that she met the Joker while working as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where the Joker was a patient. After several sessions she starts developing a deadly obsession with the villain.

Also cast –

Will Smith as Deadshot: An expert marksman and assassin

Jai Courtney as Boomerang: An Australian assassin who utilizes deadly boomerangs

Cara Delevingne as Enchantress: A powerful sorceress

Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag: A military officer

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc: A super-villain who suffers from a skin condition that causes him to develop reptilian features.

Karen Fukuhara as Katana: An expert martial artist and swordsman

Jay Hernandez as Diablo: A former Los Angeles gang member who can summon flames

Adam Beach as Slipknot: a master in the use of ropes, including unbreakable ones, and a trained assassin

Jim Parrack  as Joker’s henchman, Jonny Frost.

And Viola Davis as Amanda Waller: The government official who gives out the Squad’s orders.

Additionally, Scott EastwoodIke BarinholtzCommon, Alex Meraz, David Harbour, Corina Calderon, and Raymond Olubowale have been cast in unspecified roles.

About the interest in the film we couldn’t agree more with director Seeley when he says that what he loves about the high concept of Suicide Squad is a simple fact ´´In superhero comics, the most likable character is often the bad guy — and that’s just fun to write´´.

“Part of the escapist fantasy appeal of superhero comics is relating to the villain — watching them work out their frustrations with life in ways we would never get to, or want to, in real life,” Seeley explained to CBR news

Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016 and it will certainly be interesting to see which superhero film ends up taking the box office crown in the next year.
