USA Network has just released the first trailer for the second season of the breakout hit and critically acclaimed series “Mr. Robot,” with things looking stranger and more chaotic this time around as the stakes are higher than ever following last season intense finale.
The series’ two lead stars, Rami Malek and Christian Slater, were in attendance to debut the trailer to advertisers, the press, and others in the audience at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
“I don’t think any of us could have predicted that a series about an anti-social hacker fighting against income equality, corruption, and the abuse of power would become an audience favorite,” Malek said.
The minute-and-thirty clip breezes by quickly, as we see a lot of Mr. Robot (Christian Slater) grilling Elliot (Rami Malek) about the hacking events that concluded season 1 and set off global chaos, in political, economic and cultural senses.
“Remember the night of the hack? Remember what happened to you?”
In the clip, we also see President Obama saying in his faux cameo.:
“There hasn’t been anything like this in the past. This is going to be affecting our economy in ways that are extraordinarily significant.”
“The FBI announced today that Tyrell Wellick and Fsociety engaged in this attack,”
For season two we have new recurring guest stars that include Craig Robinson (The Office), hip hop artist Joey Bada$$, Sandrine Holt (Fear The Walking Dead), Michael Maize (National Treasure: Book of Secrets), Dorothi Fox (Run All Night) and Luke Robertson (The Americans).
While returning cast members include BD Wong (Law & Order: SVU and Gotham), Gloria Reuben (Saints & Sinners), Michael Drayer (Vinyl), Michel Gill (House of Cards), Ron Cephas Jones (The Blacklist), Sunita Mani (5 Stages), Azhar Khan (Veep) and Ben Rappaport (The Good Wife).
The 10-episode season premieres on Wednesday, July 13 at 10/9c on USA Network. With all of the episodes being directed by series creator Sam Esmail.
In a recent interview with Digital Trends, Esmail spoke about what fans could expect from the upcoming season.
“Season two gets really dark, really fast,” he revealed. “It’s even darker [than season one]. We’re still nervous with every episode. We’re afraid people are going to hate it and call us out as frauds, or whatever. But we definitely love the attention.”
So if you haven’t caught up with the show you still have plenty of time to binge-watch the compelling and original show.
On the meantime for those up to date here is the season 2 trailer.
Fun fact about the trailer at the 0:40 mark of the trailer a phone number to call, 212-804-6003. When you dial that number, a voice tells you that they have an unexpectedly high call volume right now, then it breaks up with static. Suddenly, a voice comes in and says In order for the light to shine so brightly the darkness must be present. Then there’s a series of tones which translates into a binary code.
If you continue to decipher this message you will have a very nice viral marketing surprise. But we’ll leave the rest o the online scavenger hunt for your enjoyment.
