The first teaser trailer for the latest Dan Brown novel ‘Inferno’ is coming to theaters from director Ron Howard and has premiered online.
Inferno makes the third movie, starring Tom Hanks as the character Robert Langdon, following his turns as the character in The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.
Though it’s the third film in the series, Inferno is actually based on the fourth book in Brown’s set of novels. The third one, titled The Lost Symbol, was abandoned in 2013 after some initial development.
The fourth installment in the Robert Langdon series, reached No. 1 on the New York Times Best Seller list when it was released upon the world back in 2013.
The official synopsis for the film reads:
Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
The trailer shows that the duo is dealing directly with clues that lead to the poet Dante, and his own, very famous “Inferno” (and hence, the film’s title).
The film focuses on the Divine Comedy, the masterpiece by the Italian poet and starts off in Italy where Langdon follows a trail of clues in a race to foil a deadly plot.
“There is a switch.”
We first hear in the trailer.
“If you throw it, half the people on earth will die, but if you don’t, in 100 years, the human race will be extinct.”
Fans are encouraged to reveal what they would do on the movie’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

The script was written by David Koepp, who also penned Angels & Demons, following the Akiva Goldsman-scripted The Da Vinci Code.
The movie also stars Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi) as Harry Sims (also known as The Provost), Omar Sy (The Intouchables) as Christoph Bruder, and Sidse Babett Knudsen (“Borgen”) as Dr. Elizabeth Sinskey, the head of the World Health Organization.
Ben Foster (X-Men: The Last Stand) is also slated to star as the film’s chief super villain Bertrand Zobrist who tries to unleash a plague on humanity.
‘I left you a path – the hardest one yet,’ his sinister voice whispers. ‘Only you can finish it. You are humanity’s final hope.’
These are the words directed at Tom Hanks’ Robert Langdon, professor of symbology, in this mysterious thriller.
The project’s executive producers include author Dan Brown, Anna Culp, Bill Connor, and David Householter.
Both The Da Vinci Code ($758.2 million worldwide) and Angels & Demons ($485.9 million worldwide) were substantial hits at the box office, so the studio is counting for the third installment in the franchise to do the same.
Inferno is slated to hit theaters on October 28.
