The NSFW “Deadpool” trailer was just release in time for Christmas, as part of the “12 Days of Deadpool” promotional campaign that first kicked off with a holiday-themed video and included several new posters for the movie.
In the trailer we get the origin story for Deadpool as a superhero/superslave, being a former Special Forces operative who agrees to an experimental procedure after being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) ends up with wildly accelerated healing powers.
Now calling himself “Deadpool,” he embarks on a mission to rescue the woman he loves and hunt down the agents of the mysterious organization that almost killed him.
This isn’t the character’s first appearance on film, but this time actor Ryan Reynolds says that this version of Deadpool will be more “authentic” than the one that appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and would be more similar to the comic-book character.
The new trailer also shows Deadpool with his new buddies, the film stars Brianna Hildebrand as the mutant Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Stefan Kapicic as the steel-skinned X-Men mutant Colossus, who are both seen in action in the new trailers, but apparently Negasonic is too busy tweeting to help out in the fight.
Director Miller revealed some more information on Brianna Hildebrand‘s Negasonic Teenage Warhead. He admits that she was initially selected because they “fell in love with her name” and that her powers were slightly tweaked for her cinematic incarnation.
I think Deadpool wishes she’d keep her mouth shut more than she does in the film! Because she’s quite snarky. But, you know, her whole attitude is this disaffected teen who thinks Deadpool’s just a douchebag. And so that’s her whole attitude. She’s really not that silent in the film or at least she’s silently surly because she just can’t be bothered to engage with this asshole. That’s the basics of her personality: silently shaming, judgmental personality.
As for Colossus, Deadpool says in an exchange in the red band trailer”I don’t have time for your X-Men bull****.” This seems to indicate that the two already know one another.
The film is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and also stars actor/comedian T.J. Miller as Weasel, fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano as the powerful mutant Angel Dust, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax.
As for the big bad guys, they are still a mysterious bunch, and this last trailer only hinted that Ajax could be in charge or probably the one spearheading the “super slave” project but without actually giving us a shot of his face.
There is also a big rumor going around that X-Men franchise star Hugh Jackman is going to have a cameo in the film, but his appearance as Wolverine has yet to be confirmed.
Overall the trailer leaves no doubt that “Deadpool” will be a very different kind of Marvel comic adaptation, earning its “R” rating not only through the occasional profanity or moment of gore, but to the film’s whole perspective.
Deadpool is scheduled for release on February 12, 2016, in North America.
