The first official trailer for the highly anticipated third Captain America movie is finally here!
In the trailer we see a glimpse at the reason behind the Iron Man feud as the two superheroes go head to head against each other in an epic battle.
It is Avenger vs Avenger.
The trailer begins with Captain America (Chris Evans) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) interrogating the Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) as he starts to remember everything about who he was.
But could it be that he might be manipulating his friend Steve Rogers for someone else a.k.a HYDRA.
In the movie Captain America tries to defend his ”friend” and fight against a new government regime instituting a superhero registration system, in which Captain America is cast as a “vigilante” while Iron Man is tasked with bringing him in line.
“I’m sorry, Tony, you know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice,” Rogers tells Stark in the trailer “But he’s my friend.”
“So was I,” Stark replied.
The new regime come after the city-state of Sokovia was ripped from the Earth in Avengers: Age of Ultron, prompting the governments of the world to forged accords that would require all would-be heroes to prove their goodwill by working under strict oversight.
Joining Evans and Downey Jr. in the star studded cast are Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Paul Bettany as Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.
Also making appearances in the movie are Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man.
The film will also debut Marvel’s new Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland and Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther.
The trailer was first shown on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Tuesday where Evans and Downey were the show’s guests.
“It looks like you two are very intensely in love there,” quipped Kimmel of the poster, which has Cap and Iron Man appearing fiercely at odds.
Downey and Evans also unveiled the film’s first official poster that has the two heroes locked eye to eye within Captain America’s iconic red, white and blue shield.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War will be released on May 6, 2016.
Civil War kick off the “next phase” of Marvel movies with phase three supposed to bring in a lot of new heroes and shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film also marks the final standalone Captain America film in Chris Evans’ contract with Marvel Studios, although he has stated that he is open to extending his contract past the two-part Avengers: Infinity War, the final films on his contract at the time.
With this new trailer 2016 is certainly going to be the year of big superhero battles as Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will also debut next year on March 25, 2016.
