The second trailer for Batman V Superman comes only a week after the debut of the first trailer for Captain America film: Civil a.k.a Iron Man V Captain America.
Not to be outdone by Marvel the new trailer for the highly anticipated DC Comics superhero battle film also debuted on the Jimmy Kimmel show.
In the video we see plenty of new footage from Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up, giving us a better sense of what to expect from the Warner Bros. DC Cinematic Universe film.
We see that an event hosted by supervillain Lex Luthor first introduces Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne together and immediately the two characters start on the wrong foot with each other.
“Maybe it’s the Gotham City in me, we just have a bad history with freaks dressed like clowns,” Bruce Wayne tells Clark Kent comparing Superman to the Joker.
After those first lines, we get lots of scenes showing the two superheroes fighting each other in one of the most epic battles in superhero history.
Lex accurately resumes the movie by saying “The greatest gladiator match in the history of the world.”
We also get the first look at the new big villain Doomsday that is brought to life thanks to the genetic tinkering of Lex Luthor with the corpse of Man of Steel villain General Zod.
In the comics, Doomsday is the monster that kills Superman in the infamous “Death of Superman” story-line.
The character was first created in the comics by writer-artist Dan Jurgens, who wanted to feature a villain who could be a physical challenge for Superman in a straight fight as most of his other foes relied on technology and intellect to oppose the Man of Steel.
The trailer also brings us more of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman as she comes in to save Batman from Doomsday’s attack.
“Is she with you?” Superman asks Batman. He replies: “I thought she was with you.”
The new trailer does a good job of explaining the plot of the movie, including the inevitable third-act team-up that shows Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman joining forces to fight against Doomsday, paving the way for the 2017 and 2019’s two-part Justice League feature films.
Directed by Zack Snyder, from a script by Chris Terrio and David Goyer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives March 25, 2016.
