American Horror Story: Hotel premiere

The new installment of the highly popular FX’s anthology series American Horror Story is premiering its fifth season titled Hotel.

This season of the show is bringing the horror to the setting of the Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles, California. Previous seasons have dealt with a Murder House, an Asylum, a Coven and the last one was set on a Carnival Freak Show.

The new entry to the series will be the first without actress Jessica Lange, who was featured heavily as the main protagonist in past seasons. The actress won Emmy’s for her roles in the first and third season of the show.

To deal with the departure of Lange, the show is bringing newcomer Lady Gaga and certainly the network is placing all of their bets on the pop star. All of the promotion for the show centers on the popular singer.

Even though the current season is still in production, the show creator Ryan Murphy has already tweeted his petition to have the star back for the next season stating: @MrRPMurphy Lady Gaga is so brilliant in AHS Season 5 that yesterday I officially asked her to join Season 6. Say yes @ladygaga!

Lady Gaga is, for her part, heavily promoting the show with numerous appearances and interviews leading up to the premiere. She appeared on Tuesday night’s episode of The Tonight Show where the singer told Jimmy Fallon, Dangerous things and horror relaxes me”. “It really freaks out my friends a lot. It particularly freaks out my fiancé quite a bit as well.”

Overall not much else has been revealed about the new season with the promos and commercials only giving few suggestions and clues about what to expect.

So far the only information that has been released is that this season will focus on murders and strange happenings in the Hotel Cortez -host to the strange and bizarre. The property is spearheaded by its owner, The Countess (portrayed by Gaga), who is a bloodsucking fashionista. These events catch the eye of an intrepid homicide detective portrayed by Wes Bentley.

The season will also feature two murderous threats in the form of The Ten Commandments Killer, a serial offender that justifies his actions in accordance with biblical teachings; and The Addiction Demon who roams the hotel armed with a drill bit dildo.

Returning cast members from previous seasons of the series include: Evan PetersSarah PaulsonDenis O’HareLily RabeKathy BatesEmma RobertsAngela BassettChloë Sevigny, Finn WittrockWes BentleyMare Winningham, and Matt Bomer, along with new cast members Cheyenne Jackson, Naomi Campbell, and Max Greenfield.

The season premiere is directed by Ryan Murphy who has partially inspired this season in the works of Stanley Kubrick (“The Shining”). There is a lot of promise for the series with co-creator Brad Falchuk telling Variety that thanks to Gaga, “Hotel” will be the series’ darkest and sexiest season.

You can see the debut of the show when “American Horror Story: Hotel” premieres Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
