Take one look at Kyla Grandy pictures and you’d think you were looking at pictures of a supermodel from the industry’s heyday. Her tall, lean physique and incredibly striking features make her a sight to behold. Born and raised in California and modeling since she was a teen, Kyla has managed to make a name for herself in the industry and shows no signs of slowing down. The Guy Society caught up with this throwback model to discuss how she got into the industry, what’s on her bucket list, and how she views the modeling world.
The Guy Society: Hey Kyla, welcome to The Guy Society, we’re glad you’re here. How’s everything going?
Kyla Grandy: Hey, I’m wonderful! How are you?
The Guy Society: I’m doing great, thanks for asking. Tell me, where did you grow up and what were you like? I’m envisioning that you were the prom queen but I could be wrong.
Kyla Grandy: Thank you so much for asking! (Laughs) No prom queen here! I grew up in San Diego County.
While I wasn’t a huge social butterfly I definitely had my group of friends that I liked to hang out with.
I loved to go and have a good time with them during the day but I was just one of those people that felt safe in my own bed at home so staying home was the preferred thing to do once the sun went down. Although I danced and did a little bit of cheer-leading and gymnastics, I wasn’t really the sporty type. I love art, was in all honors classes through my school years. I graduated high school when I was 16 years old.
The Guy Society: At what point did you get into modeling and how did it happen?
Kyla Grandy: Well, since I graduated at such a young age, I quickly realized that I was bored and needed something to do. I looked into some agencies, found a local one, my dad called them and got me a meeting. I got signed the day of the meeting. That’s pretty much how it started.
The Guy Society: I look at you and I feel that you have that classic, Cindy Crawford supermodel look. Do you hear that a lot?
Kyla Grandy: Thank you, what a lovely compliment! I have never gotten Cindy Crawford specifically. I have gotten told that I look like a very wide range of celebrities all the way from Hedy Lamarr, to Adriana Lima, to Keira Knightley. Don’t ask me why! (Laughs)
The Guy Society: I know this is kind of a tough question but how would you describe yourself as a person?
Kyla Grandy: Hmm, you’re right this is a hard one.
Well, I can say that I am reliable, a hard worker, strong minded, creative, silly. I always try to do the right thing.
I’m constantly trying to better myself, which is all you can do, right?
The Guy Society: What qualities does a man have to possess in order for you to consider him successful?
Kyla Grandy: I like that question. A successful man, in my eyes, doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s made a lot of money. If a man is happy with the way his life has turned out, is self-made and confident in himself, yet still has the ability to have humility and put others before him, I would consider him successful.
The Guy Society: What do you think men in today’s society are lacking?
Kyla Grandy: Honestly, a lot. There are very few men who truly understand the meaning of the word gentleman anymore.
The Guy Society: What’s your take on modeling in general nowadays? It’s gotten so crowded because of social media. Do you think it’s a good thing or a bad thing and how do you manage to stand out?
Kyla Grandy: I like the industry these days and I think I would have loved it before it became so social media crazy, too. The thing that I love about it is how it’s always changing and not everybody can keep up.
Any great industry is competitive.
I don’t know, I just like it. I just work hard, stay consistently motivated, and don’t give up and hope that I stand out to the right people!
The Guy Society: What is the single greatest experience you’ve ever had in your modeling career?
Kyla Grandy: The best experience I have ever had? Hmm, I’ve had a lot of great experiences. I think that my last trip to Miami was pretty great. I got to meet a lot of amazing people and really step outside of my comfort zone. There were so many people from all around the world and it’s so refreshing getting to know people who have different cultures than you.
The Guy Society: When you’re a model, obviously, looks are very important. What would you say is your best physical feature?
Kyla Grandy: I would say my bone structure in my face. As weird as that sounds, everyone who I have ever worked with mentions my unique bone structure.
The Guy Society: What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
Kyla Grandy: If I wasn’t modeling, I would already be in college getting my business degree or I’d be a very young real estate agent.
I plan to do those things eventually anyways as I’d love to own multiple companies. I was born and raised around businessmen so it’s only destiny!
The Guy Society: What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Kyla Grandy: Witness a miracle, travel the world, and get married. (Laughs)
The Guy Society: Random Questions: Sneakers or sexy high heels? Pizza or burgers? Pajamas, lingerie, or nothing at all? Favorite movie ever? Dirty talk in the bedroom: Hell yes or absolutely not? TV show you’re obsessed with right now? Last book you read?
Kyla Grandy: Heels. Pajamas. True Romance. Hell yes. Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles. Fifty Shades: Freed.
The Guy Society: Okay Kyla, time to wrap things up here. Can you tell our readers where they can follow you?
Kyla Grandy: Of course! You can follow me @kyla.shay on Instagram and @grandykyla on Twitter. Thank you so much for having me Jon!
